Hunger Games

Well, not the books. Seeing my weight beginning to creep back up and my resistance to baked goods and other snacks crumble, I decided it was time to get back to the exercise and diet that dropped fifteen pounds last year. My initial goal had been thirty, so now it is on to the second half of that goal.

Last time around, I tried out several apps to help keep me motivated on my goals. I started with Run Keeper, but it was only exercise. Also, they kept sending annoying emails from which I could not seem to unsubscribe. I then moved over to My Fitness Pal which has apps as well as  web interface. I am able to track food and exercise, and it is amazing how much food they have in their database. Almost everything I search for is there or has a close equivalent. The app tracks nutrients as well as calories, so I can watch my sodium and cholesterol intake, as well.

Eventually, my wife started using this tool as well, and there is a social component which notifies anyone you want to about your activity. It was nice to get positive feedback when I did something good. Even more incentive to keep to the goals I have.

If you are looking for a way to get a handle on eating and exercising, I highly recommend using My Fitness Pal. It looks like you can link in a FitBit to your My Fitness Pal account and get very exact cardio measurements if that is the level of monitoring you want.
